Hi, i am trying to set things up so that the applications i run on my xbox (gentoo) show up on my computers desktop (also gentoo).

I am running X without the -nolisten flag (so it is listening, and i have also fixed xhost and Xauth, but when i try to run a program on the xbox i get:
Code:
gentoox@Xbox gentoox $ xcalc -display 192.168.0.1:0
_X11TransSocketOpen: socket() failed for tcp
_X11TransSocketOpenCOTSClient: Unable to open socket for tcp
_X11TransOpen: transport open failed for tcp/192.168.0.1:0
Error: Can't open display: 192.168.0.1:0

Anyone know what is wrong?

As seen on this page...

Make sure that when you emerge the xfree package, you don't have the "ipv6" USE flag enabled.

Code:

USE="-ipv6" emerge xfree

ought to do it.

I have run into a similiar problem with configuring a LTSP server. I keep getting a simliar error each time I try to login into the server from one of the clients. When I first ran into this problem I simply disabled the ipv6 stuff in the kernel and recompiled(they were compiled as modules that were being autoloaded-kernel-2.6.0-mm1). Yet the problem persisted. I am now re-emerging xfree without ipv6 support. Hopefully this will solve my problem...will edit this post with the results in approx. one hour(man I do love dual 2.4 Ghz athlon mp´s w/1GB RAM-I just wish this was MY machine!) LTSP does not have any plans to implement ipv6 solutions any time soon, and if they do so, I can re-emerge xfree and recompile the kernel to get it going. I only compiled the ipv6 stuff in to get a chance to play around with it-and now I come to this after 6 hours of pulling my hair out because the clients won´t boot X......

EDIT:

ROCK AND ROLL !!
IT WORKED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

YES YOU SAVED MY LIFE

(or at least my job!)

YEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(ok enough exuberation for now.......)

Thanks for the tip........
