Hello, everyone.

I cannot remember when it was the last time I used Gentoo. Maybe 2 years, more or less. From that time to now I used Arch Linux a time, and then I bought a new computer, where I'm installing this distribution. It's a Mac MIni, using MacOS for a year and a half, then switching to Linux Mint and then to Manjaro.

I want to stay here, in Gentoo distribution, for a lot of time and learn new things. I think that, the more files you have to modify to suit your needs, the less will to change.

So, I'm installing Gentoo right now, and let's see what I'll encounter and how to deal with it.

Indeed; Gentoo is the best Linux for "fire and forget", ime. (Caveat: never explored debian, after a failed installation.)

Anyhow, welcome back :-)

Not intending to thread hijack, this just seemed a reasonable place to post.

I have been gone a long time, but always knew I'd be back. Yesterday was the day. I almost have a working system -- WiFi, EFI boot, i3, and openbox, sshd with public keys only all working. Still plugging away at sound, backlight control, wmi keys, etc...

$DEITY I forgot a lot.

I switched back to Gentoo last year when Ubuntu 18.04 was released - without 32-bit installation media.
(I was running 32-bit beta packages up until release day, so I was less than impressed.)

I forget exactly when I first tried Gentoo, but I loved the idea of bootstrapping and building everything from source.
At some point, I got a bit carried away with the testing tree and broke it... Lesson learnt.

I'd like to look at using a VM or "Bash on Ubuntu on Windows" to give my 32-bit system a helping hand with compilations, but patience works for now.

Have fun!
