Hi there.

If you have 2 HDD like me (hda = Windows, hdb = Linux), in Grub's prompt type:

root (hd1,0)
setup (hd0)

If hda = Linux then type root (hd0,0) instead.

Hope this helps,

gentoo should already be running and installed (assuming you're installing grub last) All you should do now is type quit at the grub prompt and restart your computer.
Code:
quit
shutdown -r now

Grub should load your new linux system! Cheers!

ps.

If you run into more trouble, be sure to read the end of the installation guide;

I guess you either don't have a grub.conf file, or it's somewhere grub can't find it, or the stuff in it is wrong. From the grub prompt you can still boot the system manually, check this thread: https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=108566

Good luck!

I believe you may need to link grub.conf to your menu.lst. It is a small note in the install instructions.
ln -s /boot/grub/grub.conf /boot/grub/menu.lst
I had the same problem and when I made the link everything booted.
