I tried to set disks standby (spindown) to 20-30 mins, some disks turning off properly, and waking up only if I accessing it (by samba protocol for example), but toshiba hdd's waking up from sleep random.
Kernel 4.14.65-gentoo x86_64 SMP Mon Sep 3 21:22:44 and system updated in same date.
Only SDDM and samba (no users connected or have network drive mapped) working at test time, other services not using disk as I know. That disks only for data collecting, system installed on separate drive (what seems can't be turn off because of system logging and other system process)
TOSHIBA DT01ACA100
Disks have feature
Commands/features:

Tried:
hdparm -B 127 -S 241 /dev/sdd
/dev/sdd:
setting Advanced Power Management level to 0x7f (127)
setting standby to 241 (30 minutes)
APM_level = 127
Another disk hdparm said
hdparm -B 127 -S 241 /dev/sdb
/dev/sdb:
setting Advanced Power Management level to 0x7f (127)

setting standby to 241 (30 minutes)
APM_level = not supported
hdparm -S 240 /dev/sdb
/dev/sdb:
setting standby to 240 (20 minutes)
But it's turning off after 5 minutes and always waking up without reason.
fstab standard,
/mnt/toshiba ext4 defaults 0 2. for other 'data' disks too.
Please, any suggestions?

Sorry for delay.
I've checked, look like kworker/1:0 (IO -0%) started and when started udisksd [pool] -doing IO 40.80% almost in same time and dissapear very fast, another one periodically appear jdb2/sda2-8 with IO 2-3% and disk write 35 K/s (as I know it's part of SATA AHCI kernel driver, and seems it's normal), I googled and udisksd seems reason, one of solution is disable UDISKS_POLLING...it's very old bug bug, maybe someone will report to bug tracker?

Installed hd-idle
in config file I've added line:
HD_IDLE_OPTS="-i 1200 -l /var/log/hd-idle.log"
added hd-idle service on default level, hdparm rules commented out.
Now disks going to sleep and will wake up only if I accessing them, I think it's serious bug what drain hardware resources and need to be fixed. |
