Good day everyone,
I am having a few issues with my T440s Gentoo build.
1) Xfce mouse movement hangs for several seconds.
Not sure why. I suspect the DMAR error below. Hang is usually 2-15 seconds on USB mouse (most likely just a bad mouse but I don't have a replacement  ).
2) dmesg/Kernel errors 
I have a few errors, and no idea what they mean (google turns up obscure or off topic results or I just have no idea)

Usually in large numbers (150+ errors in one go), but does come out once or twice occasionally.

Finally, I get this error (both in under and overun) fairly often:

3) Alsa .asoundrc settings not working.
I have this in my .asoundrc conf:

I am able to get the alsa mixer to recognize the PCH on my laptop and control sound output, but speaker-test, firefox, chrome all do not have sound output. Who thought it was a good idea to force HDMI as device 0...... I also run my system as a module-less install, so the work around by relabeling modules does not work.
4)Issues for GUID partitions.
No matter what I do, my GUID partitions on my drive would result in an infinite number of "unable to locate / filesystem". When I was able to boot in, I changed to runinit 1 and I would get repeated fs corruption messages when checking any partition on my laptop disk. Possibly related to: https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=72191?
5)Hibernate

This is more of a question, the the article pointed to on the wiki still relevant for solving the issue?

The bug with the mouse freeze was actually the tv remote interfering with my mouse I think. It is no longer present after I applied the concept of removing batteries with extreme prejudice (Placebo? .)
Is the url function on this forum useless? If possible I want to get the Alsa config worked out first since I have to use it for my work rather often.
I will look for time tomorrow or sunday to rebuild kernel due to time constraints (School, yay!), but here is my kernel build: https://pastebin.com/yw9ukJhY

Hardware wise: It is a 250GB SSD, 12GB Ram (Original lappy had no ram), Intel Core i5-4300U @ 4x 2.9GHz. PCI-E, WAN, Netboot, integrated camera, SECURE BOOT (  ) , windows preferred settings are disabled/off in BIOS settings. You are inserting whitespace around the URLs, leaving the links to be autogenerated as the whitespace prevents the url tag link generation from recognizing the URL to be linked. I can fix the existing instances, if you would like. |

Still struggling with Alsa, I think I broke it permanently now . I am unable to change the default card back to the PCH with modules loaded, and I get a"PCH" mixer bar even for HDMI.
Also, I have come up with some earlier information of the FIFO pipe underrun bug, apparently it was related to IOMMU and was "fixed" in an earlier version of the kernel, see: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1506339. Does this mean it is an upstream bug?
Should I try reinstalling in a mutilib environment with modules enabled? I usually build my kernel with no modules.
Edit: Could a bad disk be the source of these issues? I pulled this disk from another lappy which kept failing the fs check and mounting root as read only.

You pass parameters to built in modules on the kernel command line.
Passing snd_hda_intel.index=1,0 will swap your sound cards over.
If you are rebuilding your kernel, you may as well do | Code: | | please update microcode to version: 0x20 (or later) |
too.

Hi NeddySeagoon,
I did not build my kernel with modules, and it was previously possible to get the sound working on Gentoo. I am not sure why it is not recognizing the device of the PCH correctly now.
I'll look for a microcode update.

I know that your snd_hda_intel is not a module but your HDMI sound card is the default.
You can change that by passing module parameters to the built in module inside your monolithic kernel on the kernel command line.
The example I gave will swap your sound cards over.
