|
|
Hi,
I just freshly emerged gnome-panel so I could use it with Kahakai. When I load gnome-panel, I get the error as shown in my screenshot:
http://www.cs.clemson.edu/~nyong/screenshot.png
If I put this in my autostart file:
I get the same error about the mixer applet as well as an error with the workspace switcher (pager). When I get these errors, the respective applets do not appear. I thought this was a Kahakai thing, so I tried to load gnome-panel in Openbox 3 and I got the same error regarding the workspace applet. Any help? Thanks[/url] |

I've run into the same problem - just delete the offending applet from your configuration, then re-add it. It should work fine from then on. |

I deleted the workspace switcher applet like you said; then I tried to readd it to the panel. It gives me this error message now:

Something about CORBA... |

I've used PyPanel before. Gnome-panel has the task bar, sys tray, volume control and work space switcher that I want in my panel. If anyone knows another panel that has all that, i'll gladly switch over. Otherwise, I guess i'll keep trying to figure out whats going on with this one... |

Well, I unemerged ORBit, ORBit2, libbonobo, libbonoboui (basically try to get rid of the CORBA related stuff), gnome-panel, and gnome-applets. I also deleted the directories for ORBit related programs in /usr/share/. I reemerged all these and when log into kahakai via GDM, then do:
in aterm, the panel loads fine and all the applets work fine. When I add
in .kahakai/autostart, the panel loads but the workspace app gives me the same error i've been getting. So I tried adding
Code: |
gnome-panel &
exec /usr/bin/kahakai
|
to my /etc/X11/Sessions/kahakai file to try to load the panel there at startup. I get the same error.
For some reason autostarting the panel gives me an error, any clues on this? If not, anyone know a decent program that provides a taskbar and pager that supports kahakai's viewports? Thanks |

Just want to say that I've been getting the same error...
BTW, while I'm still awaiting the GTK+2 version, you can take a look at fbpanel. It's much more like gnome-panel than PyPanel. It has all sorts of plugins and stuff.
EDIT: Changed the URL to work. _________________ old outdated sig

Good catch Stu! Is the gtk+2 version speculation or fact? SourceForge is down for maintenance as usual so I can't really see for myself. I've got way too many gnome packages installed considering I just use the panel. An alternate gtk+2 panel would be a blessing. |

It will definitely be done in the future. They even have a patch on sf.net to make it compile with GTK+2. I haven't tried the patch yet but supposedly it makes it compile, but it doesn't look too great... but it's a start.
Personally I wouldn't use it until it gets to GTK+2, since the GTK+1 version looks like crap because it doesn't have any anti-alliasing. _________________ old outdated sig |
