|

Hi all,
For my brand new installation I gave Plymouth bootsplash a go, but because it pops up a little late and only for a few seconds I've decided to not bother much with it, so now I want to get rid of it?
I'm now back on just a kernel without an initramfs earlying my boots and dropping the plymouth in. But whenever I boot OpenRc comes up and a load of things come up with a green ok, but then the screen clears, and 'starting plymouth' comes up on a fresh screen all by itself.
Nothing relating to plymouth shows up in:
How do I get rid of this annoyance? Do I just unemerge it?
Thanks in advance. _________________ Dei

No, I deleted that and I've also deleted the System map files and Config files from the /boot dir too.
And just to be sure I deleted the grub.cfg file too and regenerated a new one.
So I'm stumped on this one to be honest.
On a lighter note, deleting my grub.cfg got my writing to show up again when booting after I meddled with the Kernel. _________________ Dei |

I can now confirm that I think it's solved.
CAUSE: I think was the 'plymouth single line open rc plugin'...
WHY I THINK THIS: It must have been calling for Plymouth to start up when it wasn't already stated from within an initramfs, and that's why it was showing up in the boot messages.
SOLUTION: Delete the sys-boot/plymouth-openrc-plugin:
Code: | emerge --unmerge sys-boot/plymouth-openrc-plugin |
Hope that helps someone.
Now how do I mark this as solved? _________________ Dei |

The title of the thread is the subject of the first post of the thread. The original poster, or a moderator, can edit that post to change its subject, thereby changing the thread's title. As is, the title looks like it may be too long to mark it as solved without removing other text. That's OK. You could rewrite it as [SOLVED] How to remove Plymouth from boot?, which means the same, but uses less space. |
