Hello,
I'm trying to install software using emerge from work, but my proxy setup is not working fully. It works when I browse through a browser like konqueror or mozilla, but links and wget fail every time. I added the HTTP_PROXY="http://username:password@proxy:port" line to make.conf, but it still won't work. It was asking me for a password in konqueror until I added that line, and now it doesn't, but it still won't work from anything other than a graphical browser. Thanks in advance for the help. |

That still isn't working. I can trick it into working if I remove the proxy information from /etc/profile and /etc/wget/wgetrc. I then have to run emerge while browsing through mozilla to keep the connection to the firewall active. There has to be a way around this... |

I guess I should also say that we are using a proxy server that doesn't need an address. When you browse through IE, Mozilla, or any other graphical browser and try to access an external website, you are prompted for a user name and password. Once you enter that info and press enter, then you are authorized for as long as you keep that browser window open. If you open a new window, then you have to re-authenticate. I'm trying to do an install on another machine, and no matter what I try, I cannot get outside of the firewall here at work. |
