right after hotplug starts, I get a couple screen full of this error
"insmod cs46xx failed insmod: /lib/modules/2.4.20-gentoo-r8/kernel/drivers/sound/cs46xx.o init_module:
no such device insmod: Hint: insmod errors can be caused by incorrect module parameters, including invalid IRQ parameters. You may find more information in syslog or the output from dmesg"
After that the system continues to load fine.
I don't plan on using the sound card, what should I do about ths?
EDIT** nm, it stopped doing this after a system update |

To get some more detail from the error mesg, log in and type 'dmesg'. If the screen flips by too fast, try 'dmesg | more'
Look for the section in question, try to make sense out of it, and then post it here for us to see.
Include other details like if you recompiled your kernel during install; used genkernel; actually have that hardware installed; and anything else that may help us understand.
Most of all, hang in there - it will be alright. _________________ emerge -u mystatusinlife |

I'm about to try this too once my emerge -u system finishes. It seems to be an issue with hotplug trying to load two drivers for the same device:
https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=73926&highlight=insmod+hotplug
dmesg won't give you any more detail on this as it happens during service startup and not kernel startup. Wish I knew how to log the output of hotplug ![Confused :?](images/smiles/icon_confused.gif) |

I think you can use modprobe to load or retrieve the status from each individual module. I am sorry I do not know the options offhand, try 'man modprobe' for the switches you need. _________________ emerge -u mystatusinlife |
