If I keep the lid closed on my laptop for a long time (~20 minutes), the laptop refuses to wake up. I noticed that the caps lock LED was flashing, but it was otherwise unresponsive with a switched off screen.
This only happens sometimes.
Thoughts?

| Were numlock and scroll-lock also flashing? That usually indicates a kernel panic. Does the laptop respond to the network when it refuses to wake up? A kernel panic will prevent that. Does it matter if you suspend from a text console? Do you use the open or the proprietary driver for your video card? What kernel versions have you tested? Has this ever worked? |

I don't have a numpad so no numlock and scroll-lock keys.
How do I check if the laptop responds to the network when it refuses to wake up?
My laptop wakes up successfully if I suspend it from a text console.
I use the Nvidia drivers.
Kernel version - 4.14.83
This works sometimes and sometimes does not.

ping is a good choice, assuming you don't have netfilter rules to block it. arping is a bit less common, but also less likely to be blocked.
Can you reproduce the failure with an untainted kernel? |

But the laptop does not wake up. I do not have access to a terminal.

Once tainted, a running kernel cannot be untainted. Reboot and refrain from tainting the kernel on your next boot. Test with the resulting never-tainted kernel. |

| I have a laptop that would freeze if the lid was closed for a long time with an application active. When I opened the lid I could enter the password and then it would hang. I no longer have the problem since updating to the 4.20 kernel. |
