DEVFS not compiled ?

I feel really stupid for asking this question. But I get an error on startup saying I don't have devfs installed and that I'm supposed to compile into the kernel. WHERE!?!? I've been through that make menuconfig menu so many freakin' times its driving me crazy! I was under the impression it was compiled in automatically. Someone please help me. What am I doing wrong. Make sure "Code maturity level options -> Prompt for development and/or incomplete code/drivers" is set to on, and then look under "File systems -> /dev file system support".
