Mekoryuk, no idea but I find my hardware sufficient for mudding:
Code: |
df@kahlann ~ $ uname -a
Linux kahlann 2.6.8-gentoo-r1 #3 SMP Mon Aug 23 21:09:37 CEST 2004 i686 Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.00GHz GenuineIntel GNU/Linux
df@kahlann ~ $ /sbin/lspci | grep VGA
0000:01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation NV35 [GeForce FX 5900 Ultra] (rev a1)
|
Of course I am suspecting that most of the processing power kahlann invests into running tinyfugue is actually spent on alpha transparency for Konsole ; ) |

What is a good mud client for doing sound triggers? I'm playing with gMudix right now and it seems pretty good, but it is lacking this feature and I found a cool sound pack I want to try. |

Hrm, xpertmud looked intersting... but damn! It wants to install gentoo-sources-2.4.26-r9?!?!? Why does the ebuild need to install archaic kernel sources?
OK, I think it cause I built my kernel instead of using one of the gentoo kernels. My bad |

Hi,
My mud of choice is Fallout (fallout.betterbox.net 2222). Fallout allows and encourages multiplaying (e.g. you are allowed to log on and use 3 characters at once, su you can team up with your own guys). This works great in zmud. I hardly use any functions, cept some triggers and aliases.
Which client would you guys advice? i'll post a screenie of my zmud setup in action if ne1 likes to see it.. _________________ I laugh in the face of danger... Then i hide until it goes away. |

Managed to miss this thread until now.
I would recommend mmucl. Great mud client written in Tcl which is also used as a scripting language in the client. Can't beat that.
In portage, of course :-)
Here's a short scripting guide to get people started:
http://mmucl.sourceforge.net/mmucl.html#Scripts
EDIT:
Oh, it's been resurected/reanimated from -02, no wonder I didn't remeber it.
Anyhow, heres an icon for mmucl aswell. |

I have tried telnet, tf, gnome-mud and crystal... and I like Crystal for its ease of use! Tell me what you like and why! I think crystal could use more features... |

My favorite client is papaya. It is fast and full of features.
http://www.gtk-papaya.org/
I run a MUD called The Soul Ruins. It has had it's up and downs and it is not extremely active at this time but it is a very customized ResortMud4.0b (I manage the resortmud codebase releases) and it is about 4 years old now. Check it out at www.haslage.net:5000 |

For a gtk2 client, I'm personally quite fond of gMUDix, as it is quite light-weight (only 134KB), speedy, and has all the features I need.
If I'm stuck in a console, MCL is what I usually stick with. It has python and perl support built in, along with pretty much anything I would need in a GUI client.
Hope that helps. |

I use kmud 1.0 for playing because the automapper is simple but works well and I have a huge mud mapped out in it.
For coding and being a snoopy wizard I use xpertmud because its 100% scriptable in Python, Perl or Ruby.
Screenshot of xpertmud with multiple windows scripted in Python for my wiz character:

OK so both of you like the scripting features of those muds, what do you script and how does that help? |

I play Sharune www.sharune.com which has its own downloable and fully-featured client ( true color, in-game world map, macros, aliases, tabadd, etc ). It's java based, and it works splendid on Linux. I dont think theres a better unix client for muds available. |

I usually prefer tf, but... burn me or even call me "retro", I love playing muds using telnet, even if it has a lot of disadvantages, it remembers me of a time several years ago when I was playing my favourite mud (I don't wan't to make commercials here, ask me if you're interestet but it's a not very well known german-mud) on nearly every box connected to the internet I could find, always telnet... but that's the personal feeling I love, otherwise I would exelent clients like gmudix and tf. _________________ What do you have when you have six lawyers buried up to their necks in sand? I use mmucl. Fully written in tcl/tk so it's easy to script and you can do very advanced scripts (I've seen one guy write an entire automapper for it). |

Have a look at Mudmagic. I am trying to write an ebuild for it, and any help is appreciated. The screen shots look nice and it seems to have a lot of the graphical features I am looking for. |

I am looking for a good client for Linux for Mudding, I am looking for something similar to zMUD which is for the Window's platform, I've used TinyFuge and all those other console based ones, and I just simply like the style and feel of a nice GUI based system. Any opinions? |

there are already a few threads about this in the forums, but a few examples of GUI based muds are: gmudix, gnome-mud, kmc, kmuddy. |

For all those that enjoy playing MUDs...
Any prefered MUD clients that you run? The game I play has a homegrown windows client that I like, so I may look at an emulator, but I'm not sure what my options are in that area.
-Thanks |

tintin is the classic, tried and true *nix MUD client. It is not GUI and has worked fine for me for over 10 years. There are some GUI ones in portage that you can try as well.

I've heard good things about tintin, but I haven't had the chance to set it up yet. From what I hear it has a fairly steep learning curve, but will do just about anything. Out of curiosity what do you play? |

I personally like Papaya though the site seems to be down at the moment:
www.gtk-papaya.org
It dosn't have as much nonsense as zMUD but I would say it has more features then gMUD. It has the feel of gMUD though and that is what I like about it. gMUD does run well in wine though so if you want to use that it is available on my MUD website (it isn't terribly easy to find lately):
