I've wondered for some time now if the pentium 4 w/"HT" will be recognized in linux as two cpu's? |

yes, do a search of the forums for /proc/cpuinfo and there is a thread of a bunch of peoples /proc/cpuinfo files and some of then show the "multi proccessors" from HT. Its pretty cool i think. _________________ Long live the gentoo forums!!!!! |

I am getting a Dell notebook 3.06GHz with HT for x-mas. I plan on using the latest 2.6 kernel. Since it will be considered two processors do I need to compile with multiprocessors enabled?
** Edit. I pwnt'd myself by putting 30.6 instead of 3.06 **

I know linux (at least 2.6; I seem to remember hearing that somebody backported to 2.4, as well) is HT-aware.
I want to know if it's HT-smart; that is, will it know not to parallelize a process onto both 'halves' of the same CPU? Some benchmarking I've read (and some thinking about it) indicate that with a HT-dumb scheduler, you actually end up going slower, rather than faster.
