Hi, I have an internal Intel graphics and PCIe Radeon. I can't get xorg detect the Intel. I have both kernel modules loaded: radeon, i915
Yesterday I found in dmesg:
Code:
[   40.144955] [Firmware Bug]: Duplicate ACPI video bus devices for the same VGA controller, please try module parameter "video.allow_duplicates=1"if the current driver doesn't work.

Booting with that cmdline doesn't help:
Code:

Provider 1: id: 0x45 cap: 0xf, Source Output, Sink Output, Source Offload, Sink Offload crtcs: 3 outputs: 3 associated providers: 0 name:modesetting

The only workaround getting some signal out of the Intel DisplayPort is this:
Code:
xrandr --setprovideroutputsource 1 0
xrandr --output "DP-1-1"  --set "Broadcast RGB" "Full"

I'm new to PRIME. This makes Radeon render all 3 screens. Is this a good solution? Why can't the Intel render it's screen?
Currently the Radeon runs on xf86-video-ati and the Intel on modesetting. I also tried running both on modesetting, no difference. What is recommended here?

Edit: As the forum does not allow me to pase my Xorg.0.log, here is a temporary paste: https://bpaste.net/show/96c023fb1001

Of course. But I just noticed there is another update 00.03.08 Rev.A from Apr 26, 2019 and I just upgraded my 3.07 from 2018. These latest fixes for the old machines just have the recent Intel microcode updates in the changes, nothing else. On Linux I just extracted the .BIN file which I can flash inside the BIOS from USB drive. Finally the issue is the same with the very recent BIOS.

There are other issues as well. With my workaround setup above enabling PRIME and make the Radeon do the rendering, the Intel DisplayPort was not usable anymore after 1 night and screens put to sleep. Running the commands again I got the screen switching on but --auto did choose a bad resolution, not the native. Only solution was restarting the system.
Beside that I could live with the PRIME workaround, but I don't understand what's wrong and why the Intel hardware is not able to render.

Some other race condition I encountered, first booting always leads to a black X screen, only the graphical X pointer is there and an ASCII cursor. I always need to login as root and restart xdm (OpenRC). I also tried to do the modprobe of both radeon and i915 earlier in /etc/conf.d/modules, to have it loaded when xdm starts.
While trying to have as most as possible modular on the kernel, any recommendation to build those modules into the kernel?

Again, what is the X driver recommendation for radeon and intel, xf86-video-* or internal modesetting? As for Intel I was told, some things are better with the modesetting, and for Radeon the xf86-video-ati is the better. Though running both on modesetting had the same result.

Would an xorg.conf setup like https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/PRIME#Discrete_card_as_primary_GPU help here? Afaik the PRIME setup itself can't be done in xorg.conf, only via xrandr.

try booting X with config file that has this in it:
Code:

Section "Device"
    Identifier     "Device1"
    VendorName     "device 1 vendor name"
    BoardName      "here was small blue"
    BusID          "PCI:0:2:0"
EndSection

You mean because of this line?
Code:
(--) PCI: (0@0:2:0) 8086:0152:103c:339a rev 9, Mem @ 0xf7800000/4194304, 0xd0000000/268435456, I/O @ 0x0000f000/64
What would that do, disable the other hardware?

the config I've posted will force xorg to use the intel gpu, try it to verify the session does gets started on that card.
if it does, you'll have to launch a session per card. afaik, xorg cannot run the same session on multiple cards.

That works and only the Intel card starts. However with both sections, X does not start, only with one of them:
Code:
#Section "Device"
#    Identifier     "intel"
#    VendorName     "Intel"
#    BusID          "PCI:0@0:2:0"
#EndSection
Section "Device"
    Identifier     "radeon"
    VendorName     "Radeon"
    BusID          "PCI:1@0:0:0"
EndSection

I tried to create a complete layout with both cards:
Code:
Section "ServerLayout"
    Identifier "layout"
    Screen 0 "radeon"
    Screen 1 "intel"
EndSection

Section "Screen"
    Identifier "radeon"
    Device "radeon"
EndSection

Section "Screen"
    Identifier "intel"
    Device "intel"
EndSection

Section "Device"
    Identifier     "intel"
    VendorName     "Intel"
    BusID          "PCI:0@0:2:0"
EndSection

Section "Device"
    Identifier     "radeon"
    VendorName     "Radeon"
    BusID          "PCI:1@0:0:0"
EndSection

This setup failed because the Intel driver was not found. Doesn't it use the modesetting driver that way? So I re-installed the x11-drivers/xf86-video-intel again, but only the Radeon card was starting. Xorg.log was showing both drivers starting fine, but last message about Intel was
Code:
(EE) intel(G0): sna_mode_shutdown_crtc: invalid state found on pipe 0, disabling CRTC:41

as said, afaik, you cannot use multiple gpu with one Xorg session.
it might work if the cards are from the same vendor but not if they are from different vendors

Yes, you can use different vendors gpus within the same xorg session.

I used to run an nvidia and a radeon with a monitor attached to each card, in the same session.

Now the question is, is this a laptop?

for the xorg.conf

I used
Code:
Section "Screen"
    Identifier     "Screen0"
    Device         "Device0"
    Monitor        "Monitor0"
EndSection

Section "Screen"
    Identifier     "Screen1"
    Device         "Device1"
    Monitor        "Monitor1"
EndSection

With a monitor section and a device section for each device/monitor

You probably want to set the driver within each device section, ie modesetting, radeon, amdgpu, etc.

And the above assumes that the bios isn't shutting down the intel gpu when it knows the radeon is on.

I did not know it was possible, I stand corrected.

No laptop, this is a small desktop:
Code:
# dmidecode -t system
# dmidecode 3.2
Getting SMBIOS data from sysfs.
SMBIOS 2.7 present.

Handle 0x0001, DMI type 1, 27 bytes
System Information
   Manufacturer: Hewlett-Packard
Product Name: HP Compaq Pro 6300 SFF
   Version: Not Specified
   Serial Number: ##########
   UUID: #########-####-####-####-###########
   Wake-up Type: Power Switch
   SKU Number: H4U29ES#ABD
   Family: 103C_53307F G=D

Handle 0x000A, DMI type 32, 20 bytes
System Boot Information
   Status: No errors detected

I tried defining 2 separate devices and screens, look at my previous posts.
I also have another [issue], that affects this machine but also my other machine (HP EliteDesk 800 G1 SFF) with only 1 single intel graphics. After a boot, the first login always fails in a black screen, after some rc-service xdm restart everything works fine.

I'm currently fighting a dual GPU setup similar to this, with intel and nvidia. Did you ever get this resolved?

Turd_Furgeson,

Intel and nVidia is often Optimus.
Optimus is not two graphics systems, its only one and a half.
If its actually Optimus, trying to treat as as two graphics systems will fail by design as the nVidia GPU is not connected to the outside world at all.

Nah, I'm aware of the hybrid laptop setups. My laptop has that exact setup actually.

This is on a desktop system with the CPU integrated Intel GPU and a nVidia 1050ti with 3 heads hooked up.

I have it working out of the box in ubuntu(and windows) but struggling getting the intel to work in tandem with the nvidia.

when I use this xorg.conf:

Currently just made sure I wasn't using old intel drivers, and am using the xorg-drivers. I have nothing complied for GPU in my kernel and am using software for the drivers.

I'm open to any advice on this, as I'm not too well versed in playing with these settings... hah.

EDIT: I just checked my make.conf and noticed I had both 'intel' and 'i965' under my use flags.... turned off 'intel' and am going to emerge newuse @world. Hoping to have better luck when it finishes.

Thanks
