I've installed steam via the instructions on https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Steam with the overlay. And have followed the troubleshooting settings at https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Steam/Games_troubleshooting#Half-Life_2 and https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Steam/Games_troubleshooting#Team_Fortress_2 . However the games simply will not launch. I get the same error every time, no matter the source game. Other games launch and run fine.

Code:
tcmalloc: large alloc 4292124672 bytes == (nil) @
Out of memory or address space.  Texture quality setting may be too high.

I was able to find one similar case of this here:
https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Source-1-Games/issues/2866
However I am already running the Nvidia driver 435.21 and still have the issue.

I've considered that it might be a kernel issue, but I don't know where to look. Here is my .config

Let me know if there is more info that I can provide that would help you help me.
I appreciate it :)

Looks like the problem was actually XFS, which I hadn't suspected for some reason. More details on the actual issue and the solution can be found Here: https://github.com/ValveSoftware/portal2/issues/204
