What am I doing wrong?
I've emerged and remerged kdemultimedia a dozen different ways, each included specific USEs of oggvorbis. I still can't open and play oggs with noatun. Why? Is there a package I need to emerge to do this? A plugin, perhaps?
XMMS has no problem with it but I want noatun to be able to, as well.
Thanks for any help, gang.

does 'ogg123 filename.ogg' play anything? ogg123 is an ogg player included in the vorbis-tools package. _________________ Quis separabit? Quo animo? |

Yes. And I can play oggs in XMMS, too.
The other thing is when I try to open an ogg in noatun, the files don't even appear in the directory they're in. It seems noatun only is looking for mp3 and wav files.
Grr...
I'll mess more with it when I get home after work.
Thanks.

Does noatun actually know what an ogg file is? _________________ Quis separabit? Quo animo? |

I play ogg files in noatun in Debian.
My main box runs Debian and my spare runs Gentoo. I can play oggs in most of my players (noatun, xmms, freeamp, mp3blaster...) so this is puzzling to me.
Thanks for the input, gang!

All I can tell you is that "my" Noatun fails if the extension of the filename is not ".ogg": If I make an ogg-encoded file, and name it whatever.mp3, noatun will not play it. If I rename it whatever.ogg, almost all is well.
By the way, I'm using KDE 3.0.2 and 3.1 Alpha1 |

Okay... found the problem...
Permissions.
The bloody oggs were set to different permissions than my mp3s. Don't ask me why that is but they were. So I changed the perms on all of my oggs and I can play them.
Odd that xmms allowed me to play them, though. What's with that?
Anywho, it's all better now.
Thanks for the other insights folks.
