I'm running updates on Pi3B+ and noticed that I think none of the qt packages used distcc. With some, distcc failed to distribute jobs, with some it reported that it got a different result and is running it localy.
Not a biggie, update's just finishing (overnight affair), though I'm curious, what gives?

The worry is dev-util/cmake-3.15.2 which fails with error:
Code:
-- Detecting CXX compile features - done
-- Checking if compiler supports C11 _Thread_local
-- Checking if compiler supports C11 _Thread_local - yes
-- Checking if compiler supports needed C++17 constructs
-- Checking if compiler supports needed C++17 constructs - yes
-- Checking if compiler supports C++ make_unique
-- Checking if compiler supports C++ make_unique - no
-- Checking if compiler supports C++ unique_ptr
-- Checking if compiler supports C++ unique_ptr - no
CMake Error at CMakeLists.txt:92 (message):
  The C++ compiler does not support C++11 (e.g.  std::unique_ptr).

-- Configuring incomplete, errors occurred!

I'm a little lost here.

Not sure about this, but could it be a problem with toolchain or some other applications in the system set. It probably would help if you can post emerge --info, as well you can maybe mention if this update was part of a bigger update, e.g. to system.

LIsLinuxIsSogood:

I have just done a world update. Also gcc-8.3.0 updated to gcc-9.1.0. Had to pull it from NeddySeagoons's binhost as it wouldn't compile on my Pi.

Then I did run emerge --oneshot libtool as advised, then the rest of the world update.

beforehand running update I've keyworded ~arm64 in me make.conf

here it is:
Code:

Does it help in figuring it out?:

Code:
equery uses gcc
[ Legend : U - final flag setting for installation]
[        : I - package is installed with flag     ]
[ Colors : set, unset                             ]
 * Found these USE flags for sys-devel/gcc-9.2.0:
 U I
 + + cxx       : Build support for C++ (bindings, extra libraries, code generation, ...)
 - - d         : Enable support for the D programming language
 - - debug     : Enable extra debug codepaths, like asserts and extra output. If you want to get meaningful backtraces see
                 https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Project:Quality_Assurance/Backtraces
 + - doc       : Add extra documentation (API, Javadoc, etc). It is recommended to enable per package instead of globally
 + + fortran   : Add support for fortran
 - - go        : Build the GCC Go language frontend.
 - - graphite  : Add support for the framework for loop optimizations based on a polyhedral intermediate representation
 - - lto       : Build using Link Time Optimizations (LTO)
 + + nls       : Add Native Language Support (using gettext - GNU locale utilities)
 + + nptl      : Enable support for Native POSIX Threads Library, the new threading module (requires linux-2.6 or better usually)
 - - objc      : Build support for the Objective C code language
 - - objc++    : Build support for the Objective C++ language
 - - objc-gc   : Build support for the Objective C code language Garbage Collector
 + + openmp    : Build support for the OpenMP (support parallel computing), requires >=sys-devel/gcc-4.2 built with USE="openmp"
 + - pch       : Enable precompiled header support for faster compilation at the expense of disk space and memory
                 (>=sys-devel/gcc-3.4 only)
 - - pgo       : Build GCC using Profile Guided Optimization (PGO)
 - - pie       : Build programs as Position Independent Executables (a security hardening technique)
 + - sanitize  : Build support for various sanitizer functions (ASAN/TSAN/etc...)
 + - ssp       : Build packages with stack smashing protector on by default
 - - systemtap : enable systemtap static probe points
 - - test      : Enable dependencies and/or preparations necessary to run tests (usually controlled by FEATURES=test but can be
                 toggled independently)
 - - vanilla   : Do not add extra patches which change default behaviour; DO NOT USE THIS ON A GLOBAL SCALE as the severity of the
                 meaning changes drastically
 + - vtv       : Build support for virtual table verification (a C++ hardening feature)

erg_samowzbudnik, this probably is not the problem, although it does help me (ha ha) I do not think I have enough knowledge about the compilers to tell you!

I will defer hopefully someone can answer about why features are lacking for the C++11 compiler that would allow either distcc or gcc/g++ to compile the executable code.

This is probably the same problem as clang compilation faile (support C++11). As mike155 noted in that topic, that issue is a CMake bug. It incorrectly greps the output of the compiler for the string warning and, if found, assumes the test failed. The correct way to do this would be to structure the test so that the compiler's exit code tells whether the test failed.
