hello guys, i have searched and manned quite a bit, but i can't seem to get over this, and i bet tis quite simple ...
i need a directory to keep the following permissions:
chown -R apache.webdev chmod 770
but when ever a user that belongs to the group webdev edits a file in the dir it changes the file permissions to:
$user.$group chmod 755
i have no joy with this, so much so, that i'm thingking of setting a cron job to do this every 5 minutes or so, and that would just be silly.
i appreaciate any help you can chuck my way, thank you kindly _________________ http://www.3am.co.za - za psy trance |

depending on your file system type you could use POSIX-ACLs.
you need to have support for POSIX-ACLs compiled into your kernel.
you can set default permissions for directories with POSIX ACLs.
you also need sys-apps/acl emerged for the userspace tools

Look into setting the umask for the users. It controls the default file permissions. |
