hi there,
first of all, i am a newbie to gentoo and linux though i have experienced linux a little so far.
my problem is that i set up gentoo on my computer and it works well....
then i tried to import my soundcard which is an ac97-supporting via8233 chipset on-board by following installation instructions of the alsa-guide.
btw. i use the 2.4.20-gentoo-r8 kernel.
grep audio /proc/pci result was:
Multimedia audio controller: VIA Technologies, Inc. VT8233 AC97 Audio Controller (rev 4
i edited the kernel-config and selected sound card support 'M' and deselected any other cards......i saved the configuration as 'soundcard' and then i made all dependencies and so on.
env ALSA_CARDS='via82xx' emerge alsa-driver installed correctly, so did alsa-utils.
the /etc/modules.d/alsa looks like that:
Code: |
# Alsa 0.9.X kernel modules' configuration file.
# $Header: /home/cvsroot/gentoo-x86/media-sound/alsa-driver/files/alsa-modules.conf-rc,v 1.1 2002/12/21 06:31:52 agenkin Exp $
# ALSA portion
# alias char-major-116 snd
# OSS/Free portion
# alias char-major-14 soundcore
##
## IMPORTANT:
## You need to customise this section for your specific sound card(s)
## and then run `update-modules' command.
## Read alsa-driver's INSTALL file in /usr/share/doc for more info.
##
## ALSA portion
alias snd-card-0 snd-via82xx
## alias snd-card-1 snd-ens1371
## OSS/Free portion

## alias sound-slot-1 snd-card-1

did you rebuild the kernel before or after compiling the alsa driver seems to me a simple recompile of the alsa-driver package should solve youre problem |
