Hej,
I was wondering whether a stable request for qtile was in order.
I've been running it now since January (version 0.13.0) without any problems at all with vastly different configs and on different installs.
For now there is no officially stable version of qtile - so should there be since it has been running perfectly on my (mostly) stable system for so long?
I guess the important part in the above referenced wiki entry is this: Quote: | Until we have automatic stabilization it makes sense to limit stabilization requests to ebuilds which benefit somehow from a stabilization. | What constitutes a benefit?
As for version 0.14.2 - just tried it, it's total garbage - I wouldn't call that testing, definitely unstable...
EDIT to add: Also, why does something like sys-apps/inxi not have a stable version? Does that not have a benefit? |

Most of the time, stabilization should be considered maintenance, and therefore needs someone who can learn and apply testing methods, run it through QA, maybe ask for review. Bug reports are the fastest way to at least get an answer on why it may not be ready for stabilization. An ebuild must wait a minimum of 30 days in ~arch before being moved to stable, with few exceptions.
You can search for stable requests through Bugzilla itself, though it may not be obvious at first.
For example, here's a search for all stabilization bugs. I used the Advanced Search to craft the query.
For convenience, here's a search for x11-wm/qtile stabilization requests.
As you can see, it's empty, so nobody's reported it yet. If you don't want to file a bug, then copy the dir to your local overlay and keyword it yourself. If you haven't already, check the wiki page for ebuild repos / overlays to learn how to make your own local overlay. It's super useful and can allow you to work around Gentoo issues if they happen.
Though, if upstream hasn't established a stable version, Gentoo may not be inclined to either. It comes down to who cares enough to see it get keyworded. |
