For the story, you might have never notice the dots on f and j keys, they are made to help positioning your fingers

there's also an indentation on the numpad 5 key. yes. i know. everyone who has spent enough time with a keyboard looks for those bumps to positions their hands on the keys. who the hell actually looks at a keyboard after 30 years? it's those bumps that guide your hands :)

A radical thought, visit a brick and mortar store. They should have basic keyboards and you can easily look at them.

I don't think we have those in Romania. What exactly are they? I only heard that expression about construction. Is that like a pawn shop?

Ha! ha! The term refers to physical stores. Don't know which there are in Romania. But here we have Fry's, Target, Walmart, Menard's and others
Fry's is an electronics store plus some other stuff. Target and Walmart are general department stores. Menard's is a home improvement store that also has electronics, often quite cheap.

Ohhh yeah. Emag. We got that. I went there. Like I said... didn't help.

It's not like they offer more info in the store that you can't gather online. In fact I was the one idiot in the store with his phone in his hand looking up reviews online of stuff I could see and touch with my own hands.

Anyway... didn't see anything good enough.

This is my previous keyboard. It looks perfect. I dont need lighting in my keyboard, but if it's done like this... it's done right. the size, the layout, the touch. everything was perfect. Except that caveat that the plastic is so low quality, at least on the keyboards that sell in romania... that in 6 months random keys are gonna jump out.

Now take a look at that picture and tell me that's not a great layout. and a great looking keyboard. 99% of what I have seen is much much much worse. there are 2-3 keyboards that I have seen and liked... but they are not cheap. Not at all. And have bad reviews. But the thing is, I like them. It seems anything I kinda liked like my k800, is doomed to be bad. and everything that is built to last, is just bleah. I don't want it.

In my desperation to make sense of this, I am thinking that maybe the cleaning lady used a hard brush on it, or maybe some cleaning sprays that weakened the plastic behind the keys. it's just inconceivable to me that a keyboard so good in any other respect and so expensive (the k800 is 150 euros here) would just break in 6 months. it has to be something else. I know I haven't been punching it. and I had 3 of them over the last 4 years so it might be something else. either they send the reject plastic to romania or there has to be something else.

Funny enough, there is no one else complaining in the reviews about the k800 and it's longevity. there's a guy complaining that the wireless isn't doing 10 meters and another guy complaining that batteries drain too fast. But nothing about its longevity.

Other than the cleaning lady and the sprays... Maybe it was something I did. And the K800 was so great. I feel stupidity taking over. fighting it so hard not to just go buy that one.
