Hi,

I'm running gentoo on a notebook and I use an external mouse attached to usb if i'm at home. The problem is, if i'm on the road I doesn't has attached the mouse, but XFree doensnt like that and exits, I has do uncomment the input section where my mouse is defined. Is there any special switch that says XFree that this mouse doesn't has to be there...

Bye

In your USB Mouse section in /etc/X11/XF86Config
include
Option "SendCoreEvents"
Then in the ServerLayout Section, list both mice devices
#
"SendCoreEvents".

InputDevice "Mouse1" "CorePointer"
InputDevice "Keyboard1" "CoreKeyboard"
InputDevice "Mouse2"

EndSection
It will work with any one or even both mice now.

I use SendCoreEvents, but the mouse driver complains about missing dev files. Thats right, they will be only available if the mouse is plugged in...
