|
|
I want to use pm-hibernate with a swap file.
for the swap partition the wiki says we should add SLEEP_MODULE="kernel" to /etc/pm/config.d/gentoo
should i also do this when I have a swap file ?
How much should my swapfile size be for hibernation ? I have 32 GB of RAM.
Many Thanks |

Given that this clause is present on my laptop as well, let's assume it is indeed required.

IIRC hibernate may require a little more than half of your RAM from the swap file/partition but I cannot get my hand on the source document.
I for one have disabled swapping on my laptop and I have as much swap as RAM size, i.e. 8GB. Never had a problem with that, at least as far as I know. I also constantly monitor memory usage with Conky though.
The thing is the amount of active swapping adds to the amount of memory used for hibernate so it can be rather tricky to calculate. You might want to read https://itsfoss.com/swap-size/ for detailed information. Also take a look at Documentation/power/swsusp.txt and Documentation/power/swsusp-and-swap-files.txt. _________________ Gentoo addict: tomorrow I quit, I promise!... Just one more emerge...

Suspend-to-RAM and suspend-to-disk requirements are dictated by the kernel, whatever application you're using . _________________ Gentoo addict: tomorrow I quit, I promise!... Just one more emerge...
