So recent versions of xterm in unstable have implemented UTF-8 fallback, where it will use the user specified default font, but search for and use other fonts for codepoints the default doesn't define.
The font I've used for a while now is mononoki, but recently while trying to use the weechat url_hint plugin, I found the mononoki font seems to define superscript 1, 2, 3 codepoints but doesn't provide glyphs, preventing those from being overridden by other fonts.
You can see the issue in the following image at line 71.

The font hasn't been maintained in a while and I'm not sure how to fix it myself. I was wondering if anyone has any similar fonts to recommend. |

My favorite terminal font is Source Code Pro. Although I usually use konsole, I just started xterm
Code: | xterm -fa 'Source Code Pro' -fs 10 |
The xterm window was able to display all 10 superscript numbers shown in your screenshot. |

There are a lot of such round fonts out there, they all look kind of similar, you don't like all of them? |

Actually it looks like it was the Linux Libertine font that xterm was pulling in that was causing the problem. I ended up using DejaVu Sans Mono, which I used to use a while back. Trying it again I think I like it better than mononoki, and it provides its own superscript glyphs. |
