Fantastic. I actually recently downloaded Sabayon for a live CD after realizing the Gentoo one was too old. I'm so glad we finally have a new one. I'll definitely test it out. Thanks! |

It does no good to have a live image if you cannot get beyond the login screen.
Please post the live CD password somewhere. This is not supposed to be a secure CD. Scrambling does not help anything. _________________ -----------------------------------------

There is the LiveGUI USB Image now.
That's built with the other stages, so that link will be broken in a week or less. The downloads page will be good though.
The liveCD has a scrambled password but it leaves you at the root shell so that it can be changed.
As you are root, the command just works. _________________ Regards,

It actually leaves me at the login GUI page. I am in virtualbox for the moment, so CTRL-ALT-F1 does not work. _________________ -----------------------------------------

What happens when you press Ctrl-Alt-F1 on the guest's keyboard? Note that your hypervisor may need to be told to press that key, rather than letting you type it directly, since a direct use will be seen by the host. |

Live media that has a scrambled password for the default user... Not many people are going to want to mess with that. |

The download, suitable for an USB stick or a dual-layer DVD, boots directly into KDE Plasma |
I didn't try it in April when that messages was posted. But currently it boots into SDDM with a choice of Plasma X11, Plasma Wayland.
You briefly get a glimpse of SDDM and then an on screen keyboard pops up and that's all you see. Let's make a guess of typing in "gentoo".. nope, password failed but at least you can see SDDM now, untill the onscreen keyboard decides to pop up again. I'm guessing it's waiting for the failed login delay to expire.
Is the automatic display of the onscreen keyboard really necessary? If you can use touch input to use the keyboard then wouldn't it be better to add a button to use it than to set it as default?
I don't understand the reasoning behind the scrambled password for the LiveGUI in this application where you are greeted with SDDM. Maybe it's been updated to give a choice between X11 or Wayland so SDDM is wanted instead of just going straight into Plasma X11 or Wayland. If it just wen't straight into a desktop it would be an issue.
Yeah, you can Ctrl+Alt+F*, sudo -i and change the password. A good annoying password with the current defaults. But, who is going to do that? Most people will just walk away.
I tried it out just to take a glimpse of the current state of Plasma X11 and Wayland with Nouveau but the LiveGUI is in a rough state. Managed an X11 session then logged out to try Wayland and the changed password no longer worked.
It's in a bad state to be right there at the top the of main gentoo.org page. Since April...
I Can't really help fix it. Maybe there is a few around here has an interest? |

skellr,
File a bug with your findings, if there isn't one already.
The right people will see it in their work queue that way. _________________ Regards,
