Is anybody interested in testing the XanMod kernel on gentoo? It recently got some good press...
I hacked together a working ebuild for the long-term support (4.19.x) series, but I guess renaming the ebuild and adjusting the xanmod version variable should make it work for the latest stable kernel (5.4.x), too.

I am going to test it and post back if i have problem .this sounds like a good gaming/Desktop kernel for my Area51m. it would be nice if you release a
5.4.x right away.

Seems to work quite well. Made my own repository, used old kernel configuration with olddefconfig and compiled it without having any errors. However, I don't know how much I'm going to benefit from this. I haven't had any issues yet. CPU doesn't seem to spike unlike on CK patched kernels
Here are my specs for my modded Dell Optiplex 7040 SFF if they're needed for anything.
Code: |
CPU: Intel Core i5-6500
GPU: Nvidia GTX 1050 Ti LP (4GB)
|
Thanks for the ebuild! _________________ DelayObject abusing since 20XX. |

No MuQSS? Seems like a glaring omission for any desktop-oriented kernel. |

I have been running it without problem for some time now and going to keep it and put it on my git .Have you tried to apply it to 5.5.0 kernel?

I just want to report that my computer is more responsive than ever with xanmod kernel. Old i3-2100 6gb ram, lto-overlay.
My kernel was ck-sources before.
EDIT: What is your experience? |

First problem i got now with xanmod-sources. I bought a nvidia 1050 card and its so lag with xanmod-sources. I end up with gentoo-sources again and its so smooth and good. I dont know what cause this i have almost same config with both kernels.
I tried everything with xanmod but its just lag, desktop and games.
Any thoughts?
EDIT: Games is good enough but desktop plasma is awful. |

Hi,
i saw you are still providing the newest XanMod Kernel at your overlay.
I tried to install it following the instructions at the Gentoo Handbook for a manual config.
But when i build it, i ran into issues i was not able to resolve.
Now i compiled everything with genkernel all ... This worked and i booted into my Gentoo and it says i am on XanMod Kernel now. Am i? Or do i have just the name ?
What i've done:
1. emerge sys-kernel/xanmod-sources
2. make olddefconfig
3. genkernel all
was this a proper approach ? |

I've been using the xanmod-sources from the src_prepare-overlay overlay. Currently using 5.10.12, works great. |

that approach works . but if you have a working kernel :
Code: |
make olddefconfig && make && make modules_install && make install
|
will do the trick
EDIT: if you like to try xanmods own .config . just head to https://github.com/xanmod/linux.git to take his .config and try it out.

i am glad to hear it works for you as i am maintaining sys-kernel/* with a good friend at src_prepare-overlay . on my own overlay "hedmos-overlay" i have IUSE="experimental" patches for the cacule scheduler but ATM the patch is old and cannot recommend to use it. |

Oh! Thank you for your work, it's been buttery smooth. I'm really looking foward to xanmod-5.11 and the Ryzen schedutil work that's in there. |

does it work good for you ? I have removed USE=cacule from src_prepare-overlay and going to have that option at my git for now .
i am at 5.10.16-xanmod1 with cacule scheduler ATM . |

Please pay attention to genkernel's output. It probably did not use whatever you expected from `make olddefconfig`, instead it probably used genkernel's default kernel config.
Please read man page and learn about "--kernel-config" parameter. _________________ Regards,

Now on 5.11.3, absolutely no complaints. Although I noticed that despite USE=symlink, /usr/src/linux is not getting symlinked when installing xanmod-sources. |
