On several machines, I have the problem that there is no sound after booting with a probability of about 50%.
If the no-sound problem occurs, there is nothing I can do for fixing except rebooting and hoping that it works afterwards: No alsamixer setting or alsactl command seems to help.
It looks like some hardware bit is not initialized by the kernel which should be and is correct with a probability of 50%. Since it occurs on several machine, I suspect that I am missing a kernel setting which is perhaps not directly related with sound.

Here is an audio device where the problem occurred just now

My codec is Realtek ALC887-VD (see below). However, I didn't find anything useful related in https://www.infradead.org/~mchehab/rst_conversion/sound/hd-audio/models.html
No, but enabling it didn't change anything: lspci -vk gives always the same output, with and without CONFIG_INTEL_PMC_CORE, in the working and broken case (sometimes with swapped IRQ numbers).

However, now I realized a difference between the working an broken case in /proc/asound/card0/codec#0:
When it is broken, some output values are set to 0x80 instead of 0x00 which is presumably illegal.
Apparently, I cannot change them with alsamixer: (I added the values after "When broken...")
