My last Linux/Gentoo PC was Duron800+256MB Ram+ 40GB HDD.
Now I have a decent one and can do more really silly and pointless stuff like having 5 distros + Windows.
Even better that I have laptop and other devices with Internet access so no problem with breaking something.
My first Gentoo install was on a PC that was the only device in the house with internet access. It took me a week following printed handbook. Stage1 from minimal LiveCD (no X) was the official way to install that time :)
So why would I want 5?
In short: to quickly test, compare and benchmark them and to have some fun. Even for Gentoo + GentooLTO + Gentoo with different flags I would need 3 partitions. I also want to have clear Linux to follow this cool project and some easy one like KDE neon as a rescue OS.
I'm not sure if this topic opens up any discussion but I really wanted to share it with you. I really missed this community.
Being part of cool community is by faaaaaaar the most important aspect of using Linux. No chance I would be using any distro if I couldn't discuss or solve problems together :)
I'm happy to be back here. Best Linux community. _________________ CLICK HERE to help move gentoo up on distrowatch.

Keep us posted. I'd love to hear more about clearlinux vs. gentoo. I've already heard enough to know that it's not worth installing on my system. : ) |

Clear Linux is different.
I like how polished it feels. Default installer uses gpart instead of whatever ubuntu uses. It's not really finished but there is something that feels good.
What was truly unique is that directories for partitions I had to name CLR_BOOT, CLR_SWAP and CLR_ROOT.
I have no idea why they change such well established stuff. _________________ CLICK HERE to help move gentoo up on distrowatch.

Welcome back, dear friend.
Indeed it is the community here, and on the mailing lists, that have kept me in the orbit of the Gentoo solar system. Someone on the mailing list once described it as a sort of "swarm intelligence" and I do so much see it like that--a hive mind of incredibly smart people coming together, working in their own little corners, discussing & conniving--sometimes knifing (figuratively), but in the end it all somehow works, and we (the users) are the beneficiaries.
So keep tweaking your system, friend! Keep posting your results, for we will all be better off for it. _________________ I'm not even mad; I'm impressed! |
