Yo guys, anyone else having the same problem as me, with the nvidia 4496 drivers, i get screen corruption, X produces garbage.. yet the standard Xfree nv driver runs perfectly.
Specs:
1.5GHz Pentium M
512MB RAM
Gentoo Linux 1.4 - 2.4.22
Patched ACPI/DSDT.

I'm having the exact same problem. Crazy squares and colored blocks on the screen, the whole thing locks up. It's becoming very frustrating.
Xfree log doesn't seem to show much either.
Have tried 2 nvidia cards with same results:
GeForce2 400 MX
GeForce4 440 MX
Running gaming kernel-r3
Already have Vesa fb enabled in kernel
Disabled AGP via options..no change
nv runs fine. |

Hmm, i have just a Problem running Videos or 3d applications with the 4496. That sucks. Think the interpolation doesn't work correctly. With the standart nv driver everything runs fine.
