Following up to this post https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-1108208-highlight-.html

I figured out why this has stopped working.

Apparently I had a resolution setting script in /etc/kde/sddm/Xsetup. This script used to run upon sddm startup, and everything was fine. I totally forgot about it because it just worked for many years. But this script no longer runs automatically (I added some debugging output redirected to a file, and it never shows up).

How can I run a custom script when a display manager starts, before the user logs in?[/url]

Thanks everyone, please stay safe.

i would put the script in /etc/init.d and define a dependency for /etc/init.d/xdm
like this: https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/OpenRC#Dependency_behavior
