Hi is it possible to create a meta package i.e. a file where I can describe what packages I want and instead of doing :
emerge pkg1
emerge pkg2
emerge pkg3
I can do :
emerge meta-pkg
and it takes care of all... also to be able to do :
emerge -f meta-pkg
In fact I most probably will do :
emerge -f meta-pkg
emerge pkg1
emerge pkg2
emerge pkg3
This is similar to the other distros which have Desktop, Internet workstation, Server, etc installs....
If they don't exist :
/usr/portage/meta
seems a good place :") |

It sounds like the KDE ebuild is similar to what you are looking for - it just depends on a bunch of other stuff to pull it all in. Whether or not you could get different Gentoo users to agree on what goes in "desktop" is a completely different issue, however. _________________ For every higher wall, there is a taller ladder |

but he could use it on a personal basis... which I believe was his initial idea
Suppose you have to build and maintain a series of boxes... You create the same "meta-ebuild" and there you have it.....
just one command per box _________________ Need to flame people LIVE on IRC? Join #gentoo-otw on freenode! |

yes ..
And for Gentoo wide meta packages if somebody don't like the Gentoo-maintainer selection ... he always can comment and/or add new package to the selection...
I think such thing can be just a plain text file with names... |
