Don't know where to post it, so i do it here

Does someone know a good Burningsoftware for Gentoo? In Windows i used Nero, and now?

K3B is by far the best I've seen. Unfortunately its a KDE app, so it means installing some dependencies I would prefer to avoid as a gtk user (namely qt a few kde libs) but its much better then the few gtk burning tools I've tried, and it is very nero-like in its operation. Well worth the extra libs needed IMO.

another vote for k3b.

it's the only thing that can compete with Nero that runs on Linux.

i just want to burn cds, not take part in a contest be-
tween two programs on two different operating sys-
tems, of which one is an operating system which i
won't be using anytime soon, let along burn cds on.

it might be relevant that programs look or function
much the same as counterparts on other operating
systems when people are considering migrating, but
apart from that, i just see the constant comparison
by some, as a way of saying that they still see the
counterpart of what they are using as better.

as soon as all those people fighting their holy war
against other operating systems, or even worse..
against other linux distributions (while linux users,
in my opinion, should be one big 'family') stop figh-
ting, complaining, comparing, bashing, etc... they
will have a lot more time to focus on helping others
and helping the community they are part of to be-
come something even more helpful, friendly and..
dare i say it.. a bit more mature.

just let linux speak for itself, and help people who
want to take the step to it make the transition as
painless and smooth as possible.

since if someone moves to linux, and then hears
that what they are using is still compared to what
they left behind, they might get the feeling they
did not do the right thing.. especially during set-
backs which require the commodity called patience.

hmm.. sorry about this off-topic reply.

i'm sure k3b is real nice. i just don't see a need to compare.

maybe u had just a bad day, but i really don't see any flamewars in this thread. everyone may use any prog he likes, we all just listed some programs, may it be eye-candy or console, so SAMU has a big choice between different styles. well, everyone may have his specific opinion of what he prefers, so why not post it? finally its the reader who has to decide.

i never object against choices people make when
choosing a distribution or piece of software. my re-
sponse was no objection against k3b, just a respon-
se to that one line shm had typed.

if i minded k3b or minded a choice for a piece of soft-
ware i do not use myself, i would have said something
in my first reply in this thread.

Hm, k3b is probably on of the best gui cd-r applications, I can't say I've seen any program that comes close to nero, and I do miss a good cdr application. K3b is probably the application I see is most like nero, though I don't like it much.

I have to hand that to the KDE camp. K3B is the only Qt application I use, very userfriendly as well.

Hopefully someday an equivelant burn application will show up for the Gnome/GTK2 environment..

Xcdroast is functional, but a little unintuitive. Still very usefull for data CD's.

Forgot to mention: Nautilus (Gnome file browser) has the ability to write simple data CD's as well. The burn:// location exists for that purpose. Very straightforward, but very usefull if al you want is to burn a CD with some files.

forced on these forums, i will do it as i enjoy most.

if you find proper english that important, perhaps
you should focus on correct spelling instead of com-

Having used both Nero and K3b (and a handful of other burning programs in Windows and Linux), K3b is by far my favorite.

My only complaint is that I can't get it to burn .toast files at present and I'm having a bear getting gtoaster to emerge.

I have tried a few programs and so far I like Arson the best. Before that I used cdbakeoven, but could not write 703MB (but just 700 or 800) but in arson I can set the max to anything I want. Of course it all depends on your drive, but the software should not limit your choices. -> emerge arson

Gnome Toaster allows you to do as many things as nero. I use it for writing mp3 to cd audio decoding "on the fly", for opening and continuing multissesion cds, can write "disc at once" and "track at once", create subfolders... I dont miss nero anymore
