Hello,

I'm experiencing some flaws with the current-install-amd64-minimal image. I downloaded this image in the last 1 1/2 years some times.

First net-setup couldn't setup the routes of the network interface when chosing to configure them via ifconfig.

Then net-setup couldn't setup the ip address via iproute2.

Then the german keyboard layout got wrecked.

Somewhen in between net-setup didn't write /rec/resolv.conf properly.

All of this makes me think: It's almost impossible that the auto-build live cd has all those problems for so long. So most likely the problem is on my side and I'm just using the wrong image, etc.

Which images should be used to install gentoo? Which tool should I use to setup the nic or is doing this manually the preffered way?

GhostTyper,

We can rule out stupid right at the start. Stupid is forever and whatever is wrong, you want to fix it.
Either by reporting a liveCD bug or with education or both. Stupid would be doing nothing.

When you boot the liveCD wired networking should just work. net-setup should not be required.
Your keyboard layout, as selected at boot time should stick. Its been a while since I tested but I use dvorak-uk, so I would have noticed the default QWERTY USA keymap.

I said above wired networking should just work. The same is not true of WiFi.
Wifi is not really supported by the liveCD. A few chipsets work but not many.

If you need WiFi to install, don't use a Gentoo boot media at all.

The minimal CD is only a toolkit to perform the install. For installs over WiFi, it has some tools missing.

Any boot media that will give you a root shell can be used to install Gentoo.
Boot the toolkit of your choice, get the root shell, do
Code:
mkdir /mnt/gentoo
then follow the handbook in the normal way.

Hi NeddySeagoon,

I'm in an environment without DHCP server. That's the reason why I need net-setup, even for my wired connection.

I think I will check the admin-cd next. And if net-setup there is not working then maybe I alter the gentoo cd image and add a small shell script, where I can just enter my desired entwork settings and it will then set the nic and route information.

On the image I downloaded some days ago when pressing [+] on keyboard layout 10 (de) it prints another (multibyte) character. I need to press two times backspace to delete it entirely. (unicode console problem?)

regards.
