Hi. I trying to update system which I not updated since 2019 december - january 2020, I forget to move to 17.1 plasma desktop profile, now I just can't because of errors, I tried to google, unmerge some conflicts packages and update what needed, no results, now I restored backup and trying over again, I really won't to reinstall that system, hope someone will help

Thanks for reply,I tried it too, will try again. Emerge trying to install python3_8. As I understand python targets must be in make.conf?
Code: | PYTHON_TARGETS="python2_7 python3_7"
PYTHON_SINGLE_TARGET="python3_7" |
and then |
emerge --depclean
emerge -1vUD @world
emerge --depclean
Code: | emerge --depclean

Better add the -1 option: emerge -1 --ask ... ...
Otherwise you will have them in your world file. |

No result. Code: | emerge -1 --ask setuptools nvidia-drivers gemato rac c --backtrack=100

NOTE: Use the '--verbose-conflicts' option to display parents omitted above
It may be possible to solve this problem by using package.mask to
prevent one of those packages from being selected. However, it is also
possible that conflicting dependencies exist such that they are
impossible to satisfy simultaneously. If such a conflict exists in
the dependencies of two different packages, then those packages can
not be installed simultaneously.
For more information, see MASKED PACKAGES section in the emerge man
page or refer to the Gentoo Handbook.

This one seems a real blocker. Anything with python_single_target_python2_7 should be unmerged.
https://pastebin.com/7ZAkUgDk : | ...
!!! The ebuild selected to satisfy ">=net-irc/telepathy-idle-0.1.14" has unmet requirements.
- net-irc/telepathy-idle-0.2.0-r2::gentoo USE="(-test)" ABI_X86="(64)" PYTHON_SINGLE_TARGET="-python2_7"
The following REQUIRED_USE flag constraints are unsatisfied:
python_single_target_python2_7
The above constraints are a subset of the following complete expression:
exactly-one-of ( python_single_target_python2_7 )
(dependency required by "net-im/telepathy-connection-managers-2-r2::gentoo[irc]" [installed])
(dependency required by "kde-apps/ktp-accounts-kcm-19.12.3::gentoo" [ebuild])
(dependency required by "kde-apps/plasma-telepathy-meta-19.12.3::gentoo" [ebuild])
(dependency required by "kde-apps/kdenetwork-meta-19.12.3::gentoo[telepathy]" [ebuild])
(dependency required by "kde-apps/kde-apps-meta-19.12.3::gentoo" [ebuild])
(dependency required by "@selected" [set])
(dependency required by "@world" [argument])
|
Then proceed with emerge --ask --depclean followed by emerge -uavt --changed-use --deep --with-bdeps=y --complete-graph --keep-going --autounmask @world
The --autounmask option will help you creating stuff for etc-update |

Thanks for help. Previously packages emerged successfully after I unmerged python2_7 depended. But then I do --depclean it ask again to be install unmerged again.
Code: | emerge --ask --depclean
* Always study the list of packages to be cleaned for any obvious
* mistakes. Packages that are part of the world set will always
* be kept. They can be manually added to this set with
* `emerge --noreplace <atom>`. Packages that are listed in

Seems that command works "emerge --nodeps -1v app-portage/unsymlink-lib" and for portage too, now I can migrate from 17 to 17.1 profile, seems it work for now. |

It's closed circle, one side it want to packages to be installed, from another side same packages leads to conflict...
Code: | emerge --ask --depclean
* Always study the list of packages to be cleaned for any obvious
* mistakes. Packages that are part of the world set will always
* be kept. They can be manually added to this set with
* `emerge --noreplace <atom>`. Packages that are listed in
* package.provided (see portage(5)) will be removed by
* depclean, even if they are part of the world set.
*
* As a safety measure, depclean will not remove any packages
* unless *all* required dependencies have been resolved. As a
* consequence of this, it often becomes necessary to run
* `emerge --update --newuse --deep @world` prior to depclean.

* Have you forgotten to do a complete update prior to depclean? The
* most comprehensive command for this purpose is as follows:
*
* emerge --update --newuse --deep --with-bdeps=y @world
*
* Note that the --with-bdeps=y option is not required in many
* situations. Refer to the emerge manual page (run `man emerge`)
* for more information about --with-bdeps.
*
* Also, note that it may be necessary to manually uninstall
* packages that no longer exist in the repository, since it may not
* be possible to satisfy their dependencies. |
Then Code: | emerge -uDU --keep-going --with-bdeps=y @world
* IMPORTANT: 8 news items need reading for repository 'gentoo'.
* Use eselect news read to view new items.

It may be too late but I would do it in three stages.
1. Download a portage snapshot from late March, update world.
2. Download current snapshot, update world
3. Convert profile from 17.0 to 17.1 on updated system
Personally, I don't plan to change profile until I'm forced to. I don't run any of the packages that 17.1 is aimed at like Skype and games. |

2-3
I migrated from 17.0 to 17.1 already and update portage, will try to install latest snapshot
But I think update endless problem because I didn't update profile... |

I last updated @world on my server on March 24th 2020, with the current Portage tree at that time. It's still on 17.0
It cannot update @world, or update portage, gemato or dev-python/certifi, even with binaries built on a compatible desktop PC with the same processor and 17.0 profile (Server PC has no X, Ruby etc installed)
I've tried to update Python, and was re-setting PYTHON_SINGLE_TARGET="-python2_7" with PYTHON_SINGLE_TARGET="-python3_6", but this comes to a halt with Code: |
!!! The ebuild selected to satisfy "net-mail/queue-repair" has unmet requirements.
- net-mail/queue-repair-0.9.0-r1::gentoo USE="" ABI_X86="(64)" PYTHON_SINGLE_TARGET="-python2_7"
The following REQUIRED_USE flag constraints are unsatisfied:
python_single_target_python2_7
The above constraints are a subset of the following complete expression:
exactly-one-of ( python_single_target_python2_7 )
(dependency required by "mail-mta/netqmail-1.06-r13::gentoo" [installed])
(dependency required by "@selected" [set])
(dependency required by "@world" [argument])
|
No python in Qmail USE flags
Code: | mail /etc/portage/package.use # equery u mail-mta/netqmail
[ Legend : U - final flag setting for installation]
[ : I - package is installed with flag ]
[ Colors : set, unset ]
* Found these USE flags for mail-mta/netqmail-1.06-r13:
U I
- - authcram : Enable AUTHCRAM support
- - gencertdaily : Generate SSL certificates daily instead of hourly
- - highvolume : Prepare netqmail for high volume servers
- - libressl : Use dev-libs/libressl instead of dev-libs/openssl when applicable (see also the ssl useflag)
- - pop3 : Include POP3 server
- - qmail-spp : Add support for qmail SMTP plugins
+ + ssl : Add support for SSL/TLS connections (Secure Socket Layer / Transport Layer Security)
- - vanilla : Do not add extra patches which change default behaviour; DO NOT USE THIS ON A GLOBAL SCALE as the severity of the meaning changes drastically
|
So what to do? Unmask python 2.7 and hope qmail is updated before 2.7 is gone? Rebuild netqmail --nodeps without queue-repair? Remove them from @world and leave the binaries alone, likely to silently break with future updates? Modify the netqmail ebuild and lose queue-repair? Or is there another way around this?

mole, you should simply add python_single_target_python2_7 use flag to net-mail/queue-repair package with /etc/portage/package.use _________________ Questions are guaranteed in life; Answers aren't.

Thanks, that works for qmail-queue.
I'm maybe not seeing the wood for the trees there; that'll work as long as Python 2.7 is available.
Now I've a stack of other python slot conflicts! I'm leaving it for now, I've have a different workaround planned...... |

Python 2.7 will always be available if you put it in local repo.

This is broken. I tried https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki//etc/portage/package.use/etc/portage/package.use but there is nothing useful there.
And something in this topic has screwed up page formatting. |
