I've been using WindowMaker in Gentoo for nearly 20 years now, and have grown quite fond of it. It does everything I need quickly and efficiently. However, recently I've been getting frequent segfaults, causing WM to restart or crash. This is a message I got:
Code: |

I tried rebuilding WM but it didn't help. I guess it's getting long in the tooth and perhaps is not being maintained much anymore. Anyone have any ideas, other than "use another desktop environment"? |

You could try to debug it. Rebuild with symbols. Grab a core file when it crashes. Post the backtrace and register context. |

OK, sure. However, I have no idea how to do this. If you can point me to instructions I will try. |

I'm a very long standing fan of WM too, especially because I can't even remember the last time I had something like a crash. It is definitely still being actively maintained so I wouldn't suggest using a different WM... there was a new release quite recently, which version are you running? Have the crashes started after installing the latest version (if you have?) |

I'm running the latest testing version, 0.95.9. This was installed about 2 weeks ago. I think these crashes started a few months ago when I started using a TV as my monitor (long story; don't ask). That couldn't have anything to do with this, could it? |

OK, it looks like it was the TV. I switched to a regular monitor and the segfaults have gone away. I still get occasional restarts, but it's nothing I can't live with. |
