Does anyone have any recommendations for a true hardware raid card that would work under gentoo?

Currently I'm using Promose 378 and TX2 Plus controllers...needless to say they don't work well.

I was looking at the Promise Supertrak SX6000 or SX4000 but I have doubts as to whether or not they are true hardware raid.

It seems as if even the expensive 3ware cards require linux drivers/ kernel modules.

The problems I've been running into with the cheap software-based cards is that it I can't boot from the array...which is required...mainly due to the fact that the kernel needs to load the module released by Promise before it can even detect the controller.

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
