Hi to all ,
i've been doing a clean install of Gentoo the last day and something very strange is happening ..
the main problem i have is when i boot for the first time my computer after it was shut down for a while , ( using refind as a bootloader on a dual boot machine) i arrive on a strange error (none)unknown and my /home partition wich is on a separate ssd (my root is on my nvme disk ) is not loaded i literally can't do anything.
but when i try to reboot a second time , everything comes back to normal and then i have david.davidnetwork that spawn and my /home is back.
this is my fstab btw.
#LABEL=boot /boot ext4 noauto,noatime 1 2
/dev/sda3 /boot/efi vfat defaults,noatime 0 2
UUID=b75a7ae8-e22f-40c4-8ff8-7c71311d5ceb / ext4 defaults,noatime 0 2
#LABEL=swap none swap sw 0 0
#/dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom auto noauto,ro 0 0
UUID=30c78e8e-4554-486a-96a3-9ea546799791 /home ext4 defaults,noatime 0 2
i tried a bunch of things but nothing really worked ...
any help would be very appreciated
Thanks a lot ! |

Hi
Your /boot seems to be commented out in your fstab..
Maybe uncomment and try again...

Commented-out boot should only matter if OP is trying to do a kernel upgrade and not handling it properly. The described symptoms sound to me like one of the drives is initially in a bad state and fails to mount. OP: please tell us what initsystem you use, and whether it displays any errors in the bad case. Additionally, in the bad case, please log in as root and collect some basic diagnostics: dmesg, list of block devices visible on the system. Try manually mounting /home from there, to see if it became available, but not until too late for the automatic mount to handle it. |
