|
|
Hi, I'm trying to solve the problem installing gentoo on my pc, I'm following the gentoo handbook amd64 tutorial, right now it's emerging the @world, and it's been 20 hours and keep repeating many same output like:
Code: |
installing x11-libs/xcb-util-renderutil-0.3.9-r3 into /var/tmp/portage/x11-libs/xcb-util-renderutil-0.3.9-r3/image cpc | cpc or avg or something
and it keeps going on and on for many hours..
maybe I did something wrong or my pc is super slow because I'm running live cd linux.
my question is it possible to skip this step? should I just skip it and going to install and after boot and install @world again maybe would be faster as my pc now running of live cd linux.
any help would be appreciated. |

A better approach would be to -
- select the most basic profile (e.g. profiles/default/linux/amd64/17.1)
- finish emerging @world
- finish the rest of the procedure as documented in the handbook
- reboot/stabilize
- slowly add USE flags, or switch profiles, or just handpick packages for your @world set

Thanks for the great suggestion.
but after 22+ hours I use ctrl+c to stop the emerging, and then I try run again:
Code: | emerge --ask --verbose --update --deep --newuse @world |
actually it did not speed up or anything it stay compilling the same. 187/235 packages. ; ]
but hey it does work maybe just that my pc is really slow. |

Please tell us the package you are stuck on.
Lower cpu can take days im installing Gentoo on a old apple imac 2007 its been compiling for 2 and half days from start to desktop.
Applications like dev-lang-rust qt-webengine gcc glibc and so on can sometimes take days.
please explain or share more detail about your installation. |
