AHHH!!

I came in to work this morning and my my box had crashed ... black screen ... nothing worked. I hit the power button to reboot, which it did. When it came back up it complained about hda1 (boot) and gave me the option to manually log in as root to try and fix it

Logged in, fsck'd boot and home (just incase). Rebooted ... then the fun started.

- vcron and xdm died on startup b/c of missing libs.
- got a prompt, logged in
- typed "ls" and got:
Quote:
ls: error while loading shared libraries: libpthread.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

- I get pretty much the same thing (but a different lib file) with: a bunch of stuff
- with "ifconfig" I get "command not found"

I then booted off the gentoo cd, fsck'd hda2 (root), mounted everything and chroot'd (w/ env-update and source /etc/profile). same thing as before ... missing libs.

WTF is going on? Am I totally f'd or can I save it?

Hoping / guessing / praying it's hardware related. It's still under warranty, so I took it back and they are going to do an origional software restore (XP Home) and run a buch of tests on it. It was in getting the motherboard replaced a month ago (4 months after I got it). NEVER NEVER NEVER buy an EnPower (sold by PCClub).

Yeah, I don't think it was hardward either, but I got rid of it anyway. I have a dell now, which I am really happy with.
