Hi, I'm having a strange problem with XFree and 2 SONY monitors on two computers. One machine uses the NVidia driver and the other ATI.
Every now and then, the screens make a poping sound and the display wobbles and then goes back to normal. It's kind of like when you degauss your monitor, except that this is a random occurrence under XFree. I know it's not the monitors because this does not happen under windows.
Anyone else have this problem?? |

I've been using Sony monitors for years and haven't seen this problem. |

Hmm... can you post the monitor related parts of your XF86Config file? |

Sorry, I guess I should have been more specific. While I have used Sony monitors for several years, I recently replaced my last one and changed settings for my new monitor.
I can tell you there was nothing special in my XF86Config file. It was a pretty standard config. |

klarnox,
What you describe sounds like CRT Flashover. when this happens the final anode voltage decreases to almost zero and gradually returns to normal. While it is low the pictures can be seen to be dim, too big and out of focus. It returns to normal as yo watch.
The EHT voltage is often (but not always) related to the input line frequency.
Try changing you Horiz range on XF86Config
Its not dangerous (to the user) but repeated flashovers can render the CRT useless becuse the start and end of the arc grow points, which increase the local electric field strength, that make the flashover more likely in future.
