A distro that can do thin client & ADSL usb speedtouch modem router in 64mb?
I have 64mb of flash disk space for my silent p90 thin client.
I would like it to be able to access my server that serves:
- X
- vnc
- files
Sound support, fancy graphics not needed.
Browser would also be nice.
If I can get it to be able to share a ADSL connection (USB) like it currently is with smoothwall that would be nice too.
What would be the best thing to start from?
Would it be an idea to try and combine certain distros such as smoothwall and a thinclient distro?
Would a CDROM be a good idea (not keen on this since it causes noise) ?
Is gentoo a good base to start from? |

Perhaps a bit overkill but you could try LTSP.
LTSP works great with ancient pc hardware with minimal requirements-ie. an old 486 w/ 32MB, no hard drive, no floppy or cd-rom works fine as a client(provided you have a network card which supports etherboot)
I administer a dual-Athlon MP 1600 server w/ 1 GB which serves 16 thin-clients,older pc's ranging from 486/32MB to PIII/128MB. Whats amazing is the clients are amazingly fast with a normal 10/100Mb ethernet network-much faster than my 1.3 GHz PIII w/512MB as a standalone pc. |
