I have now been using Gentoo for over three months now. Here is a question that has boggled my mind all morning.
I installed Gentoo from the Stage 3 tarbells. I remember back in September someone told me that even though I installed from Stage 3, eventually in the future, my notebook will be Stage 1 through all the upgrades.
Is this a true assumpition? Will the optimization of my notebook increase in the future? _________________ My Company: Hakata Consulting |

Assuming you have made changes to you make.conf file as packages are updated they will be compiled with your options and you will eventually have a system completely customized/optimized to your preferences. |

It's correct as klarnox stated, but just to clarify a bit more.
Under Gentoo, a release number is only for the LiveCD. The moment you have installed Gentoo, done an emerge sync and then emerge -u --deep world, the system is up to date with the latest stable releases and a version number is now meaningless
