im new to this but ive followed the installation guide/doc perfectly (at least i think i have) anyways when i try to merge the kernel with:
emerge -k sys-kernel/gentoo-sources
i get the message:
!!!No profile directory; system mode unavailable
im using a live cd stage3 for a pentium3
any suggestions to how to fix this would be appreciated

Either you have to do emerge sync or, if you're not on line, to follow the instructions for a GRP install. The profile directory is part of the portage tree and you need a copy of the tree on your hard drive to continue.
Code: | # tar -xvjf /mnt/cdrom/snapshots/portage-yyyymmdd.tar.bz2 -C /mnt/gentoo/usr |
is probably what you want to do now. |
