Sound Blaster Live! + Kernel 2.6 ->no sound/sound corrupt

I have a big problem. In my 2.4 kernel my sound card worked ok. I used the compiled in kernel driver. In 2.6 that driver is obsolete. If I try it with the same settings as in 2.4 I get no sound. So I tried ALSA. I tried all possible configurations (module, compiled in...). And ALWAYS, I get severe sound corruption (gnome doesn't start because the sound server starts the login sound which then loops slowly to the end). This corruption can best be described as sound looping, but with the repeting part slowly moving on till it gets to the end of the sound.
