When I did the install with the CD I followed the direction and put it in /boot/grub/grub.conf. I can't find it now to make a change when I type /boot/grub/grub.conf at the command line it says no such file or directory. I think it is because /boot doesn't mount while booting but I don't know.

No /boot doesnt and shouldnt mount at boot time.
to edit grub.conf:

su #will require root password
mount /boot
nano -w /boot/grub/grub.conf #make and save your changes
umount /boot
|
