Hello folks,

I use handbrake to process hevc files. But since a few weeks, the smp support is gone, so it´s incredible slow.

HandBrakeCLI gives me:

Code:
x265 [warning]: No thread pool allocated, --wpp disabled
x265 [warning]: No thread pool allocated, --lookahead-slices disabled

so It's probably a matter of x265. Encoding with x264 is fine.
How can I solve this problem.

Thanks a lot for help!!
Code:

media-libs/x265-3.4                     10bit 12bit numa -pic
media-video/handbrake-1.3.3-r1   fdk gstreamer gtk -lib-aac numa x265
sys-process/numactl-2.0.12          -static-libs

you could try to force smp via --encoder-tune.
could you post the output of --encoder-tune-list and tell us what options there are?
according to x265 documentation: https://x265.readthedocs.io/en/3.1/cli.html, thre should be a few options like --pools and --frame-threads, so it might be worth trying those.

Thanks for the quick answer!!

Code:
tomi@home:~> HandBrakeCLI --encoder-tune-list x265
[11:17:46] hb_init: starting libhb thread
[11:17:46] thread 7fb9281b9640 started ("libhb")
Available --encoder-tune values for 'x265' encoder:
    psnr
    ssim
    grain
    zerolatency
    fastdecode
    animation

HandBrake has exited.

what is the correct string for --encoder-tune?

Thanks!!

[SOLVED]

The fault was a broken kernel config without numa support.

why numa was necessary?
was it a multi-socket setup?
