Hi all. I have a fully updated Gentoo ~amd64 system.

Yesterday, for the first time in years, I started playing Supertux.
After about thirty minutes, I stopped playing and tried to open a file, but the file was no longer there. My home directory was now exactly as if I was a brand new user who had just logged into his plasma desktop for the first time. All my files has disappeared, all my customisations, etc. Some files in hidden directories were left, those under .local/something but not all ..

So,is this a weird bug of the latest plasma update? A malevolent Easter egg inside Supertux? Some sort of virus or malware? Has anyone ever heard of someone like this?

Note: I changed the subject as the solution was found. Without my help, unfortunately, as I didn't have the time to try and debug this.

Hard drive failure and/or filesystem corruption is ruled out?

Yes, definitely. As I said, it wasn't only that files and directories were cancelled; the whole new basic directory structure of a newly created user's home was recreated. In other words, directories Desktop Downloads Documents etc were recreated with the new date and time .. and empty.

I really have no idea how to debug this.

Did you find something in /var/log/messages (or dmesg) ?

No. I thought I was onto something when I saw a successful su by user man - then realised there's a new acct-usr/man which has lately been introduced into the tree.
Don't know what it's for, but it seems legit.

It's as if I had done the following commands in my terminal:

rm * ~

followed by a new creation of the SKEL directories.

.. nope ... whatever happened, happened while I was in my plasma desktop environment and during - or immediately after - my game of SuperTux.

I think when I have time I will try setting up a new throwaway user, create some files and directories, and try playing SuperTux to see what happens.

No, but it's definitely my bug.

Well, happy to see it wasn't malware at least
