What is in /var/tmp/portage
Can i delete everything here or is it needed by emerge in some way like unmerge or something |

This is where temporary files are stored during compilation.
You may delete the contents as long as you aren't in the middle of an emerge. |

all the /*/tmp directorys are fine to clean out...
i actually symlink /var/tmp and /usr/tmp to /tmp and then mount a 1G tmpfs (memory) filesystem on top of /tmp cuz i have a ton of swap that never gets used and since all the tmp stuff is done in memory its a lot easier on my hard disks, and it might even compile stuff faster, although i havent really checked on that... |
