I was doing my first little system update. I emerged a new kernel (ac-sources) and had to re-emerge alsa-drivers as well as ati-drivers; then I wanted to update gnome and whatever else needed to be updated. Alsa-drivers was no problem but when emerging ati-drivers I received the following error:
Code:

emerge ati-drivers
...
/usr/lib/gcc-lib/i686-pc-linux-gnu/3.2.3/../../../libGL.so: file not recognized: Is a directory
...
!!! Error: media-video/ati-drivers-3.2.8 failed
!!! Functionn src_compile, Line94, Exitcode 2
!!! (no error message)

emerge -pu ati-drivers showed a qt update in the dependency. I have qt-3.2.2-r1 and emerging the update gives the same error as above. ("libGL.so: file not recognized: Is a directory" and the emerge aborts) Everything depending on qt or gtk that I try to update (gnome for example) gives the same error message.

Does anybody know what causes the problem and how to fix it?!

Try switching around libGL's using opengl-update. opengl-update xfree, opengl-update ati, etc.

I tried switching libGL around with the following result:
Code:

opengl-update xfree
* Switching to xfree OpenGL interface
/usr/sbin/opengl-update:line 1:readlink:command not found
/usr/sbin/opengl-update:line 1:readlink:command not found
                                                                                [OK]

emerge ati-drivers gives the same error as I already posted.

Hmm... Do you have a /bin/readlink? If not, try remerging coreutils.
