This is my first time asking for help in a forum, so pls no bully. I hope someone can help me.
I'm on an IdeaPad Flex 5 14ARE05 using the latest KDE Plasma. I haven't tried using any other DE. When I try to change my brightness in KDE, the display dialog comes up and the brightness doesn't change.
When I try to connect another monitor via the HDMI port nothing happens. When I plug or unplug my power plug the display dialog comes up. This doen't happen with any other port (USB, sdCard)
This problem is nonexistent on any other distro I've used on this laptop, like Void or Manjaro.

By following wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/KDE
I chose the default/linux/amd64/17.1/desktop/plasma (stable) profile.
And installed elogind, udev, dbus, polkit, and udisks.
Then I followed the X Server article and installed kde-plasma/plasma-meta. |

In your xorg log you will see:
| Code: | [ 10.079] (EE) open /dev/dri/card0: No such file or directory
[ 10.079] (WW) Falling back to old probe method for modesetting |
You will also see here the manufactor ID from your display:
| Code: | [ 2419.442] (EE) event8 - MSFT0001:00 06CB:CE2D Touchpad: kernel bug: Touch jump detected and discarded.

If you google for "06CB:CE2D" you will find many problems with this device. As not beeing an expert with AMD I would like to ask if you have read this:

Just a guess: Maybe an old kernel or missing some kernel settings or the firmware for your graphics card. |

Thanks. I took what you said in mind and reviewed the wiki page. I ended up adding 'VIDEO_CARDS="amdgpu radeonsi"' to my make.conf.
And ran: | Code: | | emerge --ask --changed-use @world |
It pulled in some software. I rebooted and no changes came about.
I also looked at my specific Kernel options and didn't find any options that should've been different.

It was compiled with GenKernel. (Don't bully me. I didn't have the time to configure my own. I will once I have this figured out.)
I also compiled the kernel last weekend, so I don't think it'd be too old.
I also use an APU with no graphics card so that might be why Xorg couldn't find card0.

Sad. Your kernel is gentoo standard. Do you have sys-kernel/linux-firmware installed ?
If no: Please emerge it and boot again. If this doesnt help ->
If yes: You said you had no problems with other distros. Do you know if they use the closed source drivers ? (look here: https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/AMDGPU-PRO). Maybe this is the reason for some differences.
As I said before I am no AMD expert. Maybe someone else can help. (We dont bully people needing help). |

Yes, I did have linux-firmware installed.
I've used Manjaro and Void on this laptop and I'm quite sure they didn't use any propriety drivers.
Void uses linux-firmware-amd and xf86-video-amdgpu. And I booted Manjaro with Open Source drivers.
I did look at https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/AMDGPU-PRO, I might try to do something with it later. |
